Phoenix Bird

I am not weak because I broke. I am not weak because I stayed.

Refrain kept intact

“I am not weak...” — this line anchors the whole piece.

Evaluation Notes

Core Theme
Resilience as mature love
Not defiance for its own sake. The phoenix is not spectacle; it is quiet rebuilding.
Voice
Direct, first-person
No ornament. Works best read aloud slowly, letting each line land.

Narrated Version

I have burned before.
Not in myth, in daylight.
Ash in my mouth,
hands still open.

I am not weak because I broke.
I am not weak because I stayed.
I am not weak because I loved,
even when love cost me.

The fire did not finish me.
It taught me how to breathe
through smoke,
how to choose the next step
when nothing was left to prove.

I do not rise to impress.
I rise because the morning
asks for work,
and I am still here to do it.

I am not weak because I feel.
I am not weak because I forgive.
I am not weak because I begin again,
quietly, without applause.

Call it phoenix bird if you need a name.
I call it living.
